Manchester is surrounded by a number of areas of outstanding natural beauty. To the East the Pennine hills lead the interested walker over to Derbyshire and Yorkshire beyond. To the north is the wonder of the Lake District and Cumbria. To the south are the Cheshire plains and to the west is the coastline of North Wales.
